Celebrating a Milestone with an Influential Man

Please join us in saluting our Chairman, Larry Greene, as he celebrates his 80th birthday today!

Larry was born on April 3, 1933 in Lynchburg, Virginia, but spent most of his formative years in Jersey City, NJ.  He graduated from Syracuse University in 1957, and began his tenure with MGA after arriving in Reading in 1960 to join one of our predecessor firms, Frederick A. Muhlenberg & Associates, as a Project Architect.  In 1965 he became a partner with Fred Muhlenberg, and has served as our fearless leader since 1977 when Mr. Muhlenberg retired from practice at the age of 91.

Throughout the years, Larry has not only been an integral part of our firm’s success, but has contributed his talents and energy by participating on many boards for both his profession and for the Reading/Berks community.  For example, in 1976, Larry formed a partnership, consisting of himself and other Reading-area construction trades and engineers, to jump-start development for downtown Reading.  This partnership proceeded to develop and construct the 10-story “Penn Square Center” office building located on the northeast corner of 6th and Penn Streets; this building is now known as the Sovereign Bank Building.  Following the success of Penn Square Center, other corporations and organizations took notice and proceeded to develop office buildings at 7th and Penn Streets, 6th and Court Streets, 4th and Penn Streets, and the south side of 6th and Penn Streets.  MGA was very fortunate to be selected as the Architect for these buildings, as well.

His commitment to his adopted community is evident over the years by his participation on various boards for non-profit agencies, such as the Visiting Nurse Association, and the Berks County Chamber of Commerce.  In 2012, Larry completed his final term on the BARTA Board of Directors, where he had served continuously since 1982.  In addition, throughout his long career as an Architect, Larry has supported his profession by serving on Boards for the National, State and Local Chapters of the American Institute of Architects.

Larry is the heart and soul of our family here at MGA, and we are forever grateful to know this funny, generous and kind man.  Stroll down memory lane with us as you see Larry through the years (including one sharp hockey goalie!).
